AVS uses ThumbmarkJS and related fingerprinting technology as part of its fraud-prevention, abuse-prevention, and free-usage enforcement controls.
These technologies may process combinations of browser, device, network, and request characteristics in order to generate or associate a pseudonymous identifier with a browser or device.
Information involved may include:
- Browser and device characteristics
- Request and network signals
- IP or IP-derived information
- Fingerprint identifiers
- Visitor identifiers
- Bot, VPN, or other risk indicators
- API and security metadata
AVS uses this information primarily to:
- Detect repeated or abusive use of free analyses
- Enforce free usage limits, including limits such as the availability of up to 10 free Product Analyses where applicable
- Detect attempts to circumvent usage restrictions
- Prevent automated abuse, fraud, bot activity, and misuse
- Protect AVS infrastructure and paid services
- Investigate security incidents
A browser fingerprint is generally a pseudonymous technical identifier. However, depending on applicable law and how it is combined with other information, it may constitute personal information or personal data.
We do not use browser fingerprinting for the purpose of making decisions about employment, credit, insurance, healthcare, or other similarly sensitive matters.
Where applicable law requires prior consent for fingerprinting or comparable technologies, AVS will seek that consent before using the technology for purposes requiring consent.
